Sky Bet’s Ebor Festival Community Sweepstakes has shortlisted nearly two dozen Yorkshire-based charities, foundations, and similar groups.
The initiative, which was organized by Flutter’s Sky Betting & Gaming in collaboration with York Racecourse, saw 22 organizations randomly assigned to a horse that competed in this year’s Ebor Handicap.
While the race was held over the weekend, Sky Betting & Gaming issued a statement reflecting on the charitable endeavor and revealing the organizations that were shortlisted.

The organization matched to the winning horse will receive a £20,000 ($23,530) donation, while the organizations matched to the second and third place horses will receive £5,000 and £2,000, respectively.

Organizations that did not place in the top three with their matched horses will still receive a £1,000 donation. Among the 22 shortlisted organizations are Active Independence, Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People, St Leonard’s Hospice, and Dementia Dreammakers Sheffield.

According to the company’s statement, the chosen charities were chosen from over 150 entries representing a variety of groups from across Yorkshire.

“With so many fantastic entries, it was incredibly difficult to choose just 22 of these wonderful causes,” Michael Afflick, Director of Brand, Creative, and Sponsorship at Sky Betting & Gaming, said ahead of Saturday’s handicap.

“They were all extremely worthwhile, and we can’t wait to see which horse wins in support of their matched charity, foundation, or community group.” We’re looking forward to an exciting weekend at York Racecourse.”

“The initiative is a brilliant way to connect with the wider community and shine a light on the incredible work that happens across the county,” said James Brennan, Head of Marketing and Sponsorship at York Racecourse.
