According to a new finance report, Florida’s Seminole Tribe has contributed $1 million to Governor Ron DeSantis’ re-election campaign this month.
Last year, the operator signed a new gaming agreement with DeSantis that allowed it to accept online wagers, but this was quickly overturned by a federal judge.
According to new information released by Friends of Ron DeSantis – his re-election committee – the tribe’s support for Florida’s governor has not wavered.
On August 1, the Seminole Tribe contributed $1 million to the incumbent governor’s political committee, which has received more than $2 million this month – or at least up to August 11, the most recent date covered.
The tribe’s contribution is also the largest single donation to Friends of Ron DeSantis since the Republican Governors Association gave the committee $2 million on July 26. (RGA). The Seminole Tribe has also made significant contributions to this latter organization.
Friends of Ron DeSantis has donated more than $5 million to the Republican Party of Florida this month, including a $3.5 million donation on August 10. FlexPoint Media was another recipient, receiving $1 million from the committee on August 1.
DeSantis will run for a second term in office in Florida’s upcoming gubernatorial election on Tuesday, November 8th. DeSantis has also been mentioned as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2024.
The Seminole Tribe briefly offered online sports betting last year before being forced to discontinue operations after an appeals court upheld Judge Dabney Friedrich’s ruling in December.
