A nursing student in Brooklyn won $1 million through Jackpocket, a third-party app in the United States that sells official state lottery tickets.
The 26-year-old becomes New York’s sixth millionaire after using the app to purchase $10 worth of Cash4Life lottery tickets on her phone. It was her first time participating in Cash4Life.
The nursing student plans to use her prize money to pay off her education debt and fund her final year of studies, as well as to assist her family and invest for the future.
“I was terrified. When I called my mother, she exclaimed, ‘Are you serious?!’ You’d better double-check that this isn’t a scam.’ ‘Mom, I just went on my Jackpocket account, and my win is on there,’ I said.
“I’ve had a lot of good fortune in my life.” But winning this was an entirely new experience for me. My bill and slate will be wiped clean. I won’t have to worry about anything else if I have something like this. And if I invest it correctly, I can make it grow larger than what I actually won… it’s still a shock!”
She is one of six Jackpocket millionaires in New York, with over 405,000 Jackpocket winners in the state claiming more than $65 million in prize money since the app launched in 2021. Over $175 million in lottery prizes have been won on Jackpocket by over 1.1 million individual winners across the United States.
