The Star Entertainment Group appoints Zhan Spalding as GM Surveillance Queensland
Zhan Spalding has been named General Manager Surveillance Queensland by the Star Entertainment Group, a newly created position. She started on September 5th and will split her time between the group's two Queensland properties. She will play an important role in the transition from the Treasury Brisbane surveillance team to a new model in preparation for operations to begin at the Queen's Wharf Brisbane precinct, which is set to open in stages in the second half of 2023. She will also take immediate charge of The Star Gold Coast's existing surveillance operating model.
"We are overjoyed to have been successful in attracting Zhan to this new and critical role for the company," The Star Gold Coast COO Jess Mellor said.
"She has extensive experience in surveillance technology implementation, multi-site management, restructuring, and streamlining processes, on which we will rely as we continue to solidify our position as the Gold Coast's premium tourism and entertainment destination."
"Her appointment supports The Star's growth and investment in Queensland while also strengthening our female leadership ranks." The Star aims for 45% female and 45% male leadership representation, with the remaining 10% recognizing the need to create space for non-binary gender identities."
Spalding has over 30 years of experience leading surveillance and security operations for both national and international gaming venues, and she said the role was appealing because it promoted gender equality.
"Throughout my career, I have often been the only woman in a surveillance or security international network events team, so I am passionate about encouraging other women to pursue a career in this industry," said Spalding.
"I also want to highlight the role's breadth, which is complex and demanding, requiring knowledge of technology, compliance, policy, procedure, data analytics, crisis management, and other areas."
"I am thrilled to join The Star at this exciting stage of their growth, and I hope to contribute to the organization's cultural and diversity focus and achievements."
